Animated Feature Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Nickelodeon Monsters, Inc
Disney/Pixar Shrek
Dreamworks Neighborhood kids take off for space (with boy genius Jimmy Neutron) when their parents are abducted by evil aliens. More fun than I expected but not award worthy. Another instantly welcome addition to the animation canon from the geniuses at Pixar. Monsters harvest screams from children to power the city of Monstropolis. A green ogre gets mixed up with an evil king and a beautiful (?) princess in this fairy tale sendup. Uneven, slightly amusing but undeserving of its enormous hype. Celebrity or Critical Endorsements Leonard Maltin How'd I do? I scored 100% here. I was one of like only two people on earth who realized/feared that AMPAS was too traditional and stuffy to enjoy Waking Life. Who Got Robbed? The rejection of Waking Life is a slap in the face to animators and filmmakers who hoped that this category would be a way of recognizing a great medium -rather than a ghetto for kid's flicks. That's too bad. Other Eligible Films Not Selected: Marco Polo, Ramadha: The Prince of Light, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Osmosis Jones, and Trumpet of the Swan Prince. Disney's Atlantis was withdrawn from competition. Who Might Think About Writing a Speech? Why the creators of Shrek of course. Because for whatever reason, the zeitgeist was with the green one. But the Pixar team should write one anyway. In case miracles happen or justice is served. Who Should Win Monsters, Inc is the only reasonable choice.

Calabash Animation What are they about?
Info comes by way of the excellent site Animation Blast "Sergeant wakes up with only a wide-screen TV for company, in a place of peace for all eternity." "A flock of small birds, joined by a large bird, decide to protect their perch." "Recordings of Dublin children telling Bible stories in the 1960s." "One night a strange child suddenly appears to a childless couple." "Og the caveman has trouble getting the cavegirl because his hairy beard keeps growing back." Who Will Win? Pixar regularly reigns in this category and For the Birds is funnier than Jimmy Neutron and Shrek combined. All in just four minutes!
