Strengths:
Was all over the place demonstrating her range this year.
Weak spot: Why would this particular perf standout? May split her vote with showy cameos in Lord of the Rings or (gasp) Shipping News even though her best work was in the little seen The Man Who Cried.

Strengths:
The role is not unlike last year's winner: It's essentially a long suffering wifely lead. She's very much the heart of a questionable film.
Weak spot:
She's not half as good as she was in Requiem -and her character is a blank.
Strengths:
She's won twice and her role here is another show stealer. She's hilarious and the camera loves her.
Weak spot:
The role is a cake walk for her. Not much of a challenge. She has lots of internal competition.
Strengths:
Critics calling it her "best work ever" and that's not hype -it's the truth. The time would be perfect for a comeback.
Weak spot: Downbeat film... and she's not in a lot of it. How will the film fare at the box office now that it's going wide?

Strengths:
She's one of the principle standouts in the Altman film - an accomplishment in and of itself.
Weak spot:
Lots of internal competition for this nomination. She could fall victim to more glittery Hollywood types below... or her other perf' in Last Orders.

 Very showy and definitely "best-in-show" but this role for her first nom?
Final Thought:
 They love them some Judi but it's not like she's excellent in this film. Just OK.
Final Thought:
 Iris probably doesn't have enough strength to place three nominees.
Strengths:
Diaz is well liked in 'the biz.' She seems to be enjoying herself here.
Weak spot:
Limited screen time compared with some of her competitors. Is the enthusiasm for this performance all about the timing of it? Will she fade before February 12th?

Strengths:
She's worked with Halström to a nom before.
Weak spot:
A double nominee this year even though her year has seemed lackluster? Voters may feel that Iris is enough. The role isn't as instantly archetypal as role in Chocolat.

Strengths:
She's gorgeous, intelligent, and vivacious in the film. A life force.
Weak spot: Dench's spotlight could distract viewers. There are those who feel she's played the young bohemian one too many times.

Its tough to see a film this weak getting two acting noms.

It's been a long time since three actors were nominated from the same film in one category.

Weak spot:
Not everyone feels that way. Her character is unlikeable which is a no-no for Oscar.
